My Story......

It has been a while since I have written a blog post.... life has been crazy the last few years. A roller coaster I never expected but was thankful to be on. It was surreal...... hours of self teaching, and working with my creative side, all while trying to balance life....

My passion turned to a business..... that.... I never expected.

This is my story.

I grew up one of four children, both parents professions were banking (taught us a great foundation to finances). At the end of each school year (starting around 12 years) they had us write on a piece of paper “ What do I want to do when I grow up?”..... with out fail I wrote: Childcare or home design, every year.

Today. I am 40 years old, a wife, mother to two beautiful girls (ages 9 and 14), an Early Childhood Educator of 21 years and a successful business owner for 20 years in childcare.

The balancing act of my very busy life was getting hard, too hard.....I had some decisions to make. One year ago, I taped this letter to the daycare coat area with mixed emotions, and many tears when speaking to my “families” about my transition.

Friday I retired from childcare after 20 years. 20 years. That is half my life. These chairs and kitchen/playroom now sit empty......

The emotions that came with it I was not prepared for, emotions that are so hard to describe. Childcare was part of my identity. The first child I cared for came to visit me 4 years ago. Today she is 26 years old and has a 3 year old child of her own.

My identity for more than 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 20 years. The memories. I was part of raising THIS many children from 6 months to 4 years and up. For hours, years, and decades. These pictures were just removed from the playroom walls With A LOT of emotion.

Please enjoy a little bit of what we were all about. :)

Yes, the question was asked to me many times....... With so many emotions are you happy with this transition in careers and let the daycare go? Absolutely! Who gets to live your life long business dreams....not just once but twice!!!!! :)

Today I am thankful for the support from the love of my life that I married 15 years ago....... (and then surprised him in that same dress 4 years ago. :))

He is one the best nurses (For now our Niagara Falls Covid nurse), fantastic father to our girls, and the best business supporter.... there were many, many, long days, many weeks went by without a days break from work in months. He knew my passion, determination, and creativity was there and Space Change Studio was growing. He jumped in the daycare many times to help, and has never missed coming to each “first” meetings for Space Change Studio. He picked me up when I was falling, got just as excited with each new job and success I went through. If it weren’t for him I wouldn’t be where I am today.

From daycare......to now the perfect business partner for Space Change Studo!

We started out as Fabulous Design with Function....and evolved to Space Change Studio over the last few years..... it was just a better fit name... it described us perfectly.

A very special thank you to some of my first clients that put their trust in me with planning their space changes and allowing me assisting along the whole process. It was you that helped me evolve.

So when asked if I’m ready to jump full time now into Space Change Studio...the answer is YES! My passion for functional renovation planning has become a business that is keeping me quite busy! Thank you to everyone who has helped me evolve to where I am today!

I absolutely love functional cabinetry and am honoured to work with two independent cabinet builders!

Who’s next for a Space Change? ;)
