A space of our own

This master bedroom is 14x12 feet in size. The size of the bed is king. This room isn't big but not too small.
This bedroom was "dark"....... The furniture was very large and tall. Everything was dark wood, and big. The lighting was limited to two side lights that once were 1970's swag lights, then converted over to two bar lights barring three lights on each that casts shadows . It was terrible lighting.

BEFORE

This space is ours. T&J's.
It was the only space we had that was away from "the every day life."
It was definitely in need of a face lift.
We wanted a space that felt open, yet cozy. Simple, yet powerful. And definitely, all about us. :)
This kind of space design is so much fun!
It all started with these two end tables that were found on clearance at one of our favourite stores...winners. They were small, beautiful, and the price tag was right! ;) We had glass cut to protect the beautiful wood tops.

I decided to really make this room minimalistic. Less is more.
I also decided that in order to make this room feel bigger with keeping a king size bed, I needed to keep everything on the smaller and shorter scale.
We started with our electric fireplace. It was sentimental to us. It was a purchase we made with some of our monetary gifts from our wedding nearly 14 years ago. We wanted to keep this, so how could we? We did a face lift, and made it shorter, all for $100!!!

Next was lighting......
We hung some pendant lights that are on a dimmer to give the cozy feel when wanted. :)

We chose our paint carefully .... The colours were soft, airy, and reminded us of some of the best beach trips of our life. When entering the room we chose to put an accent wall on the same wall as the entrance door...why not! :)

Our art was chosen right from our hearts. Each piece was.... all about us, and that is what we wanted this room to be. There was enough space in the rest of the home to display the rest of "our world".
That mirror has traveled with us....... a donation given to our "yard sale stag and doe" many years back.....and we kept it. It had been in many different homes we have owned and different rooms, but for the look and the memory, it needed to be in this space. :)
This wall holds a sentimental piece from our honeymoon to Greece, and now has a functional space underneath to hang robes.

This next photo. Speaks for it itself.
The photographer, and friend of mine (Stacey Clutterbuck Photography), caught this "emotional' surprise I pulled off for J on wedding year #11. Yep that is my wedding dress from over a decade ago....and no that photo was not staged...... pure. raw. emotion.

I kept these two pictures off set and hung higher above the bed to keep the ceilings feeling high as everything else was lowered in the room.
Thanks to a little fun at "The primitive shed" these two signs fit us. :)

This "manly" organization station was added to this end table to help my man stay organized......as I'm sure you have figured out how important proper function is to me. ;)

As we speak about function. It doesn't matter how big (full house guts and redesigns) or small (room decor and organization) the detail I spent on a space has a reason and functionality. Every space design I do is equality important and has thought to it.
Now the bed.
Fabulous design with function is all about the best product for the best price. We are obsessed with proper research. ;)
Out with the old mattress and in with the new "Douglas" mattress. We spent many hours making sure we made the right purchase, and this mattress is by far one of our best! It is amazing!!!!

We put it on a white low profile bed with drawers under it. This gave the feel that the bed was smaller then a king size! For now, no headboard. We love the feel of the open room!
We chose to hang a pull down blind on the window that lets a little light in so we can wake naturally. :)
This room needed a little softness so, out with the old sliding closet doors and replaced with these soft curtains. I added a closet organizer and did some purging. Less is more. How many pieces of clothing do we really need! All of our clothing is tucked neatly on shelves and hangers behind this set of curtains.

Our morning row (love our water rower that we store upright beside our fireplace) and our night time relaxation time couldn't be any better in out new space!
Check it out!

Space design changes ones emotional state in so many ways. I am honoured to be a part of each and every job I do, whether big or small they are all equally important to me. :)
