Restoration of an old deck

These type of projects I LOVE! I save what is existing and make it better! Doing this saves the environment and the pocket book. :)
This project was in my own back yard. I am luck to say this 18x30 foot pool plus the two tiered deck only takes up under 1/3 of our large back yard. The railings were peeling and rotting. It WAS becoming unsafe. The deck had mildew on it but was not rotten. It wasn't built the best, but it was here when we bought the house. We knew we could save it!
BEFORE:

We removed the railings, power washed, rolled a water proof sealer, sanded and repainted the posts black. J spend spent some time reinforcing the deck properly underneath by preparing the blocking, in preparation for the sun shade. Some of those days got quite warm! But, hey we WERE working on the POOL deck, so it was easy to stay cool. :)

We were restoring the deck, so some areas needed some extra attention which can take extra time. I do still believe it is worth the extra "elbow grease". We had to sand and fix some areas. J was working with some twisted posts. The post were still strong, with no rot, so we worked with it. This meant painting black to hide the imperfection and some strange angled cuts for the railings and stair rails. In the hottest of days J wore his crazy outfit that made me giggle but I totally understood cutting medal railings with flying shards could get suck to get stuck in skin.

While J worked hard on rebuilding the deck along with building the sunshade after I power washed, water sealed and painted the posts.
I then decided I couldn't leave the weathered patio set. I glued, screwed, cleaned each piece. I lucked out with a super cool transparent sealer, waterproof stain in the "as is" area and picked it up for $7! After many hours and some patience I completely painted each piece. I found some clearance patio cushions and created a new clean look, and fully sealed and repaired! :)

We created a cozy area to enjoy many hours with family and friends.
With finding some deals, and clearance items, a lot of "elbow grease" we managed to keep the cost under $2000! :)

We made sure we took a well deserved weekend away to build sand castles and do hand stands on the beach. :)
